FreeTeleprompter Studio is a browser-based live streaming studio. It puts the four things a scripted show needs in one tab: a teleprompter that only you can see, your camera with lighting and background correction, your screen or a single window, and scenes that switch layout and jump the script to the right section in one keystroke. It composes a landscape 16:9 picture and a portrait 9:16 picture from the same studio, rather than cropping the middle out of one to make the other. Recording works today and saves to your own device. Broadcasting out to YouTube, Instagram and X requires a relay server, because a browser cannot open an RTMP connection by itself, and that relay is the part still being built.

How to do it

Open the studio and turn on your camera

One permission prompt for the camera and one for the microphone. Nothing is recorded, sent or stored until you press a button that says so.

Paste your script

Any line in capitals becomes a section. Write INTRO, DEMO, Q AND A, OUTRO and you have the running order of your show, with a progress indicator so you always know where you are.

Set up your scenes

Each scene is a layout plus, if you want, the script section it belongs to. Switching to Demo puts your screen on air and moves the script to the DEMO section at the same time. Keys 1 to 9 switch scene.

Check how you look

Camera Polish corrects exposure from your actual picture, warms the colour slightly and softens skin by a small amount that is capped so your face does not change shape. Background blur is optional.

Run the ready check

Ten seconds of real measurement: camera resolution, whether the light is good or blown out, whether the microphone can hear you, how long the script runs, and your connection. Nothing in it is a decorative tick.

Record or go live

Recording composes the same picture your audience would see and saves it as MP4 on your machine. Going live needs a broadcast connection, and the studio says plainly when one is not configured rather than failing halfway.

What actually makes the difference

·The teleprompter is drawn as a panel over the page, never into the picture. That separation is structural rather than a setting, so there is no combination of clicks that puts your script on air.
·Portrait is composed, not cropped. In a screen-plus-camera scene, landscape puts the screen full width with you in the corner and portrait puts the screen across the top and you across the bottom. A centre crop of a slide is a picture of the middle of a slide.
·Put the script near the lens. The studio keeps the reading line high on purpose, because the distance your eyes travel from the camera is the thing that makes reading visible.
·Scenes beat improvising. The reason a live show falls apart is usually not nerves, it is the moment you have to find the right tab while talking. Bind the scene to the script section once and that moment never arrives.
·Wear headphones. Echo cancellation in a browser is good and it is not magic, and no software fixes a speaker feeding back into a microphone as well as not having speakers on does.

Frequently asked questions

Can I stream to YouTube, Instagram and X at the same time?

The studio is built for it: it composes a landscape output and a portrait output from one session, and the destination system is written against a provider interface so a multistreaming service or our own relay can be dropped behind it. What is not done is the relay itself. A browser tab cannot open an RTMP connection, so every route from this page to a platform goes through a server, and that server is the next piece of work. Until it exists the studio says the connection is not set up rather than pretending.

Do I need OBS?

No, and that is rather the point. OBS is excellent and it is also a piece of desktop software with scenes, sources, encoders and bitrates to understand. This runs in a tab, has scenes and layouts with plain names, and never asks you what a keyframe interval is.

Is it really free?

The teleprompter, the studio, screen sharing, scenes, camera polish and recording are free and need no account. Live broadcasting will cost money to run, because relaying video to several platforms uses real servers, so that is where a paid tier will sit when it exists. Nothing that is free today becomes paid later.

Does my video get uploaded?

No. Recording happens in the page and the file is written on your own machine. Nothing leaves your device unless you go live to a destination you connected yourself.

Will it work on my phone?

The studio runs on a phone with the camera, the teleprompter, camera polish and recording, and it opens in portrait because that is how a phone is held. Screen sharing is the one thing phones do not offer: no mobile browser provides the API, so the studio says so and carries on in camera-only mode rather than showing you a button that does nothing.

Can I share just one window instead of my whole screen?

Yes. The browser owns that choice: when you press Screen it offers your whole display, a single window, or a single browser tab, and the studio reports back which one you picked so a share that says window is never quietly a share of everything.
